Suppliers And Businesses Must Work Together
By Craig Calvin
There are few things as important as getting your supplies on time. Whether you are sourcing them locally or sourcing them globally, you must have a good relationship with your suppliers. If your relationship with your supplier is solid and trusting, then you will know that they are always doing everything they can to help you meet your goals.
It is often a lesson learned too late or in the wrong situation, but if your supplier doesn’t respect you as a customer and feel like the relationship is a two way street, then there are times when you will not get their best effort. It is not supposed to be that way; every customer is just as important as every other customer, no matter how big or small. This is more often than not true; but if you have a reputation for treating suppliers badly, then you probably aren’t getting their best effort.
It all works together. If you are not good to them and you are unreasonable and demanding and never compromise, then they are not going to like to deal with you. Sure, they like getting your orders, but sometimes that is just not enough. One of the biggest rules in sales is to get to know your customer, get them to like and trust you. People are much more likely to buy from somebody that they like and trust.
Some businesses can provide unrealistic demands for the suppliers so it is important to make sure you have the type of relationship with the suppliers that they will tell you if certain needs can’t be met, and you have to understand that you likely are not their only clients and show some understanding, but make sure everything is agreed upon beforehand.
Also, think about how much you are planning to pay the supplier. They comae at all cost ranges so you might want to consider paying a few extra dollars to a supplier with a good reputation instead of someone you are not aware of.
