Is There A Future of Advertising?

By

I read a really engaging piece form eMarketer lately and I’d like to take a minute and share it with everybody.
The piece, aptly titled Facebook Drives US Social Network Ad spending past $3 Bln in 2011, has some fascinating nuggets of information worth deliberating. EMarketer recently projected that social promoting will reach $3.08 Bn.

in 2011, an increase of over fifty percent from 2010! Already at a startling $1.99 Billion in 2010, it appears that social marketing websites are taking and may continue to take over the lead on promoting products in the 21st century. What’s more, the $3.08 Bn. will be responsible for ten percent of all advertising bucks spent online in the US! And who do you believe is leading the charge? You know it, our favourite social network website Facebook.

In 2010 Facebook’s ad money was at $1.86 Bn. (with $1.21 Bn. coming from the U. S. alone ) Think that sure is a big number? Well, the projected advertising cash for the following 2 years is just shocking, with an increase to $4.05 Bn. worldwide in 2011 and $5.74 Bln in 2012. Social networking engines have found their place in promoting and advertising, and are now a novel medium where any business can promote their services and goods. If eMarketer’s projections remain accurate, by 2012 we’ll see promoting bucks allotted to social networks in the US touch a record breaking $4 bln! Where does Facebook stand in the scenario? According to eMarketer by 2012, half of Facebook’s ad money, a surprising $2.87 Bln , is projected to come from the U. S.

As is clear, US is leading this social marketing trend, but the remainder of the world is right behind it. I don’t believe anyone might have imagined the level of expansion and success Facebook saw in the last couple of years.

The first team likely never imagined back in 2004 (when Facebook was first launched) that Facebook would be where it’s now. Is the sky the limit? Looks like we’re going to have to keep waiting and see about that, but I am doing know this sort of expansion is no fluke. There’s potential for expansion and success for all business aiming to expand into the social selling sphere.
