Many Onward Travel Options For Arrivals On Flights To Aberdeen

By

Aberdeen airport (IATA: ABZ, 3 million passengers per year) is Scotland’s second busiest airport, in terms of number of flights, and is the major regional airport for the north-east of the country. As well as domestic and overseas flights, there are a large number of helicopter flights to the oil and gas facilities in the North Sea oilfields. Those who are arriving on flights to Aberdeen have a number of onward travel options including car hire from all the well-known operators, and frequent rail and bus services into the city.

Aberdeen airport is about 10 km (6 miles) from the town center, located in the suburb of Dyce. A regular shuttle bus runs every 20 min during the day from the airport terminal to Dyce Railway Station, and from here there are many train services into the city’s main station.

Local bus operators (Stagecoach Bluebird, First Aberdeen) also provide many services from the terminal. Those arriving at the airport may also book a rental car, although booking in advance is usually preferable.

All the major rental companies have offices at the terminal (Hertz, Avis, Europcar etc). Advance booking of a hire car may be done through the airport’s official website, or through the rental company directly.

There are four hotels either on the airport site itself, or nearby in Dyce, and there are of course many other hotels in the city center. Those who are looking for accommodation in town may wish to contact either the Scotland tourist board, or the local city tourist information center.

Aberdeen has many international and domestic services, including both scheduled and chartered flights. The domestic services include connections to most major UK cities, and also flights to the airports on the Scottish islands, and to Wick, which is the most northerly airport on the Scottish mainland. The airport is also a major heliport, with many flights serving the oil and gas installations in the North Sea. Those who arrive on flights to Aberdeen have numerous options for onward travel, including bus, rail and car-rental, and for hotel accommodation in and around the city.
