Easy Methods to Improve the Quality and Quantity of Business Leads in Virginia

By

The sales we so desire as business owners tend to be developed through properly fostered relationships that we create with others – specifically other business owners in Virginia. Business Networking functions and group gatherings provide an excellent opportunity for you to expand your growing contact list, especially if you take the time to nurture the relationship once you make contact. While the base idea is to form relationships, these events still offer opportunities for new and immediate business leads. Here are some strategies to help make your business networking efforts more profitable:

Choose the right Group – There are a lot of groups in the state of Virginia – especially Northern Virginia – that are put together to help business owners generate leads and network with one another. Not all groups are open to everyone, and not every group is appropriate for you to join. For example, if you’re target audience happens to be Fortune 500 companies then joining a group of individual business owners may not be the best use of your time.

Focus on Quality over Quantity – Try to avoid being the guy at the event with the shifty eyes, the one that is constantly looking for new people to swap business cards with. Having a pocket full of business cards does you no good at the end of the day if you haven’t put in a solid effort toward building any relationship foundation with the other business owners. You won’t remember them and they certainly won’t remember you.

Make a Positive Impression First – First impressions are everything, and when business owners are networking at these events they’re always looking for signs of whether or not a contact is worth the time and attention. People will read every inch of you from your hand shake to your grooming, eye contact, facial expressions, etc. Stay genuine, be attentive and your odds of building better relationships will greatly improve.

Be Engaging – You can’t simply float from conversation to conversation and expect to get results. People won’t invest in you if you’re not willing to invest in them. It’s fairly obvious when someone disengages from a conversation so it’s important that you genuinely show that you’re interested in what is being said. Ask leading questions, talking about their own interests as well as their business, discuss what has already been mentioned, etc. Demonstrate that you’re actively listening and people will be more likely to remain interested in you.

State Clearly What You Do – It’s easy to get caught up in talking about yourself but you need to be able to clearly and quickly state who you are and what you do. People are more likely to remember a short and witty elevator pitch of a 10 monologue pertaining to how you learned to make blue widgets. The elevator pitch is perfect for Virginia based business networking events.

Above all else, remember to follow up with any quality contacts you make during the group meetings or Virginia business networking events. If your contacts don’t have an active relationship with you then the chances of them sending you targeted traffic is greatly reduced. It stands to reason that if you want to increase your profit potential with targeted business leads you need to pick up the phone and setting some coffee meet-ups.
